1 Winchester Mystery House

Sarah Winchester, the widow of Winchester Rifle magnate William Winchester, built San Jose’s Winchester Mystery House in 1884. It was seven stories tall, but the 1906 San Francisco earthquake caused some damage. The house is now four stories tall. Sarah’s belief that the house was haunted by those killed by a Winchester rifle led her to have her house built without the guidance of an architect for the entire 38-year construction period. As a result, there are many oddities in the design, such as stairways and doors that lead nowhere.

2 Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum

The Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose is a magnificent museum built in the architectural style of the ancient Egyptians to immerse you in their culture. It also houses the western United States’ largest collection of ancient Egyptian artefacts. On the premises, there is also a planetarium with weekend shows. You should not visit San Jose unless you spend time in Ancient Egypt.
