To reach the Citadelle Laferrière, visitors must first drive to the town of Milot, about 12 miles from Cap-Haïtien. From there, it’s a steep hike up the mountain to the fortress. The hike can be challenging, but the views from the top are well worth it. Visitors can explore the fortress and learn about its history from local guides.
